Generic Information: Ruidixin (China)
Ruidixin (瑞迪欣) is a Chinese-market brand of regorafenib manufactured by Shanghai Acebright Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd., a domestic oncology-focused manufacturer. Each pack contains 28 film-coated tablets of 40 mg. Ruidixin is a licensed, cost-effective alternative to the Bayer originator Stivarga for later-line treatment of advanced colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumour and hepatocellular carcinoma.
What Is Regorafenib (Ruidixin) Used For?
Ruidixin is indicated for metastatic colorectal cancer that has progressed after standard chemotherapy plus anti-VEGF and, where relevant, anti-EGFR treatment. It is also used for gastrointestinal stromal tumour resistant to imatinib and sunitinib, and for hepatocellular carcinoma that has progressed on sorafenib. Like all regorafenib products, it is used to slow disease progression once earlier lines of therapy have stopped working.
How Does Regorafenib Work?
Regorafenib blocks a broad network of kinases involved in cancer-cell growth and blood-vessel formation, including the VEGF receptors 1, 2 and 3, TIE2, PDGFR-α and β, FGFR-1 and 2, KIT, RET, RAF-1 and BRAF. By shutting down these signals, the drug both slows tumour-cell proliferation and starves tumours of their blood supply, which helps control disease across several cancer types.
Indications
The three approved indications are advanced colorectal cancer after prior standard therapy, imatinib- and sunitinib-resistant gastrointestinal stromal tumour, and sorafenib-refractory hepatocellular carcinoma. An oncologist should initiate and supervise treatment, and liver function and blood pressure should be checked before and during therapy.
Dosage
The standard dose is 160 mg, taken as four 40 mg tablets once daily with a low-fat meal, in 28-day cycles of 21 days on and 7 days off. A 28-tablet pack covers one week of active dosing. The dose may be lowered to 120 mg or 80 mg daily to manage side effects such as hand-foot skin reaction or liver enzyme rises.
Side Effects
Common adverse reactions include hand-foot skin reaction, diarrhoea, fatigue, high blood pressure, reduced appetite and mouth sores. Less common but serious effects include liver injury, bleeding, gastrointestinal perforation and cardiac events. Liver function, blood pressure and blood counts should be monitored regularly, and patients should report skin changes, persistent diarrhoea, dark stools or chest pain promptly.
Storage
Store Ruidixin tablets at room temperature in the original container, protected from moisture, and out of the reach of children. Do not use past the expiry date on the pack.
