Generic Information: Dacocare (Laos)

Dacocare is a Lao-manufactured generic of dacomitinib, produced by ElementoPharma Co., Ltd. It is supplied as 45 mg tablets in a 30-tablet pack, matching the standard daily starting dose. As a second-generation, irreversible EGFR inhibitor, Dacocare delivers the same active ingredient as the originator brand, aimed at patients who need EGFR-mutated lung cancer therapy at a lower, out-of-pocket-friendly price.

What Is Dacocare Used For?

Dacocare is used as first-line monotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR exon 19 deletion or exon 21 L858R substitution mutations. It is prescribed only after genetic testing confirms one of these sensitizing mutations. The oral, once-daily format makes it well suited to long-term home treatment.

How Does Dacocare (Dacomitinib) Work?

The dacomitinib in Dacocare binds irreversibly to EGFR and, unlike first-generation drugs, also to HER2 and HER4. This covalent, pan-HER blockade keeps the cancer-driving growth signals off for longer, which translates into more durable disease control. The mechanism is the same as the originator's, which is why a bioequivalent generic can be used as a cost-saving substitute.

Indications

Dacocare is indicated for adults with locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC whose tumors carry an EGFR exon 19 deletion or exon 21 L858R mutation. It is not for EGFR wild-type disease and is not indicated for small-cell lung cancer. Confirm the mutation status before starting therapy.

Dosage

Take 45 mg once daily, with or without food, at about the same time each day. If you miss a dose, do not make it up with an extra tablet — continue with the next scheduled dose. Dose reduction may be needed if diarrhea or skin toxicity occurs. Avoid proton-pump inhibitors; use a locally-acting antacid or an H2-receptor antagonist timed at least 6 hours before or 10 hours after the dose.

Side Effects

The most frequent side effects are diarrhea, rash, paronychia, stomatitis, reduced appetite, dry skin, weight loss, hair loss, cough, and pruritus. Early use of anti-diarrheal agents and good skin care can keep most of these manageable. Interstitial lung disease is rare but serious; any new breathing difficulty should be reported immediately and the medicine stopped permanently if ILD is confirmed.

Storage

Keep Dacocare below 30°C in a dry place, inside the original package, and away from children. No cold storage is required.

Why Choose the GLT?

For uninsured or under-insured patients, Lao generic dacomitinib such as Dacocare is a far more economical option than the originator brand, whose Western list price can be several times higher. GLT sources from established manufacturers and provides the documentation needed for international delivery, so patients can continue therapy without exhausting their budget.
